Why is the Potential Heat Concern time important?

If the CheckUP potential heat concern time is surpassed without managing heat, the clinician may deliver enough energy to damage the tooth pulp chamber or gingiva with prolonged continuous curing. This can lead to post-operative sensitivity.

This time is calculated based on the understanding that excess energy delivered to a prepared molar can cause pulpal temperature increase, risking tissue damage and pulp necrosis (1).

Exercise caution when curing bonding agents or when the light tip is close to soft tissue, as there is a potential for thermal damage to tissue when using curing lights that deliver high intensity exposures for extended exposure times

Heat management techniques include:
- Use multiple curing cycles (i.e 2x 10 sec vs 1x 20 sec)
- Use a steady stream of cool air while light curing
